Visiting Sedona Arizona with a baby

Hiking

Our favorite hike that we did was Devil’s Bridge via Mescal Trailhead. I’ll link the all trails below. This was a 3.9 mile hike with about 530 feet of elevation gain. It was smooth sailing until the end where there is some scrambling that you have to do. It was a little sketchy with a baby but if you go slowly and carefully it should be fine. Use your own judgement. Our 4 month old slept majority of the time but loved looking at the trees. Another tip for this one is to start before the sun is up. Since it is such a beautiful hike, it is very crowded. We went before sunrise and didn’t have a problem but coming back we passed about 100 people who were all going to have to wait in line at the end to get a picture on the bridge.

Another short hike we did was right outside of our hotel at Bell Rock. It was only .8 miles and was great to do with our baby. By the time you get to the bottom of Bell Rock you are met with beautiful views of Sedona and this hike was not crowded at all at sunset.

The last hike that we attempted doing was hiking to the birthing cave. We tried this one mid day and ended up turning around at the end before going up to the cave. If we didn’t have a daughter we definitely would have waited in the lines to get in but with the end of the hike being extremely steep we didn’t risk it carrying her in the carrier, it is probably doable if your baby is big enough for a hiking backpack. Plus a group of 30 people walked right past us and we took that as a sign to skip out on that one. I’m sure the views are beautiful from the cave though.

Would we go back?

We definitely plan on visiting Sedona again. We were only there for two days and there is so much more to check out. We saw a lot of climbing routes, more hikes, and biking trails, campgrounds etc. Showing our baby the world is our goal, even if she couldn’t see much. We want her to see the beauty of the world and be immersed by different environments. Even if you only have a day I recommend taking a trip to Sedona and doing a couple trails.
