Tahiti Honeymoon

Tahiti is located in the French Polynesia, it is actually the largest island within French Polynesia and is normally not one that too many people visit. Tahiti is normally a quick stop on the way to more popular islands such as Moorea, and Bora Bora. We decided to stay on Tahiti and it did NOT disappoint. If you don’t know where Tahiti is, hopefully this picture helps!

Tahiti is filled with beautiful culture, amazing locals, the bluest water we’ve ever seen, the most green rainforests, and one of the most perfect waves in the world.

Affordable

We had been trying to figure out where to go for our honeymoon for a while. We knew the options were endless and honestly we almost threw Tahiti out of our options because we figured it would be too expensive. It turns out that Bora Bora and Moorea are the expensive islands and Tahiti actually wasn’t too pricey. After looking around, the two sites with the best deals are Costco and Expedia. We tried getting a deal with Costco, but it turns out you have to do that very far in advance; so if you see something you like on there, jump on it ASAP. We ended up finding the most amazing deal on Expedia, which was a flight and hotel bundle for $1,800 each. This was for 7 days 6 nights, which was better than what we had seen at Costco. We had an amazing flight with Air Tahiti Nui, and got to stay in the Te Moana Hotel, right on the water. Here is a link to the hotel if you are interested:

This was the view from our room, it was amazing!

Te Moana did not disappoint us, they had a beautiful infinity pool, an amazing restaurant, and even an area to snorkel on site. They also have a ton of excursions that you can do straight from the hotel. A few that we saw were snorkeling, scuba diving, and jet skiing. It is extremely convenient because all you have to do is walk out of your room and you’re ready to go! The one excursion that we decided to do with them was snorkeling and it was incredible! They provided drinks and it lasted around 2 hours. We went to multiple stops and got to see dolphins, swim with turtles, and swim at a ship and plane wreck. I highly recommend doing this if you stay here.

Food and Currency Exchange

Food was actually a bit more expensive than we were expecting. First of all, everything is in the Franc currency so be sure to exchange before heading out there. There are a few places that take USD but most expected Francs. The hotel restaurant had amazing food, and for the portion size we got it was actually a great deal. We ended up finding out that the best option (so we weren’t eating out every meal) was to go to the local store. There are an endless amount of food options in their little market, so we’d definitely recommend that if you do not want to go to a restaurant every meal. Here are pictures of our favorite meals at Te Moana’s restaurant.

Activities Galore

Our hotel was not the only place with a ton of activities. The whole island was full of things to do! I’m going to highlight our favorites.

At the top of our list is (drum roll please) our ATV Tour!

Tetapua Quad Tahiti

Doing an ATV Tour is a must when visiting Tahiti! Our tour guides were amazing, we learned about the Tahitian culture and truly got to experience the beauty of the Island. The tour was 4 hours long, included lunch and drinks, and you get to choose what destination you’d like to visit and we chose the walk down to the blue waterfall. This was the most beautiful waterfall we’ve ever seen and had beautiful blue water to refresh us after the ride and hike there. We also were the only people there, which made the experience even more special. We will definitely be doing this again next time we visit the island!

Ocean Vibes Surf Lessons

Second is going on a surfing adventure!

Surfing in Tahiti is a must no matter what your experience level is. We booked a little surf trip with Ocean Vibes Surf School . Our instructor was awesome and even picked us up from our hotel and took us to a spot that specifically was good for our level. They provide the boards as well. We had such an amazing time out there, and it is definitely something we will never forget. I believe we were surfing for about three to four hours which is amazing for the price.

Teahupo’o

Speaking of surfing, another must do is visiting Teahupo’o. Teahupo’o is one of the most perfect breaking waves in the world. This was a very spontaneous adventure we went on and also the cheapest. We drove over to Teahupo’o and started asking around for a boat to take us out to the wave. Within about ten minutes we found a boat and were off to see the wave with a local. The wave is about 400 meters offshore and breaks over about 3-6 feet of water, which is why it is also one of the most dangerous waves in the world. If you fall in this wave, you are most likely going to have some gnarly cuts from the reef. The wave was about 4-8 ft when we were out there so I can’t imagine how insane it looks when it is 20 feet. No wonder this wave draws the best surfers in the World. This is another activity we would do again.

Mo’orea

The last awesome thing we did was take a short ferry ride to Mo’orea for a kayak tour. Make sure you get to the ferry station at least an hour or two before it is supposed to leave. There are so many people that take the ferry everyday so the parking gets filled very fast. We had bought a ferry ticket for our car as well but we did not get there early enough and the car ferry was full. We sadly had to leave our car in Tahiti so we took taxis to get to and from the kayak tour in Mo’orea. The experience was amazing once we got there though, the people once again were so kind and helpful. They love their island and it truly showed. We thought kayaking was going to be easy but it was actually a great workout and extremely difficult. We got to snorkel with a ton of fish, sharks, and even stingrays! Here are a few pictures from that adventure:
